The strategic rebranding of this Zimbabwean legal firm represents a significant milestone in Absolom and Shepherd Attorneys’ growth, aiming to broaden its market presence and enhance the quality of services offered to their clients across various industries and sectors.
Absolom and Shepherd Attorneys’ vision is to be a multifaceted, multidisciplinary legal service provider, going beyond traditional legal advice and litigation to add value to clients' businesses. Machigere’s promotion aligns well with this. The firm plans to take advantage of his diverse expertise and use it to build a brand that can be grown into a formidable legal service offering.
Machigere emphasised the firm's collaborative approach: "We are a collaboration of multidisciplinary talents and experiences forming a unit dedicated to excelling in legal service provision."
The firm will pull on Machigere’s expertise in corporate and commercial law, banking law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, estate administration and succession planning to strengthen its position in the Zimbabwean legal market.
Machigere says admission to the partnership presents him with a platform to use his business practice experience and background in a way that can positively influence the firm’s service offering to their commercial and corporate clients. “This helps us carve a niche in the market as a bespoke legal service provider who not only understands the legal terrain, but can equally relate on how the law directly impacts commerce. This, in my view, is what is predominantly lacking in most corporate and commercial law firms,” he noted.
"I plan on continuing to leverage my professional associations and networks in commerce for continuous understanding and appreciation of the diverse needs of the firm's clients,” Machigere commented. “This will help me stay relevant and up to the task of offering practical legal solutions that add value to the clients' business portfolio.”
When it comes to fostering strong client relationships and attracting new clients to the firm, Machigere says the key is to remain relevant to the client’s needs. “I am dedicated to always seeking to see matters from the client’s value perspective before rushing to proffer solutions,” he explained. “My solutions are effective only to the extent that they can add value to the client’s needs. As such, I act more like a legal risk manager than the typical lawyer whose goal is just to win even when such wins do not add value to the client. Mine is a value proposition that I hope will endear me to the firm’s clients and ensure satisfaction and loyalty.”
Looking ahead, Machigere's long-term goals involve establishing himself as an authority in shareholder protection, shaping legal thinking on shareholder and corporate governance issues. To this end, he has enrolled for a doctoral program focusing on understanding shareholder protection as a topical concern within the corporate space.
Machigere and his colleagues at Absolom and Shepherd Attorneys, aspire to elevate the firm to be a legal entity of global acclaim in the corporate and commercial space.
