Perfectly matched ambitions, shared values, and a desire to revolutionise the way clients experience legal services in Africa led to powerhouse Nigerian firm Aluko & Oyebode taking “the leap” to integrate with pan-African alliance ALN, say Gbenga Oyebode and Joke Aliu.
“This partnership isn’t just about us, it’s about shaping the future of legal services in Africa,” commented Oyebode who co-founded the pioneering Nigerian firm in 1993. Now Of Counsel for its new evolution, Oyebode recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Chambers and Partners for his “outstanding legal career of global stature”. “We’re at the forefront of this market transformation, and that’s something to be proud of,” he said. “It’s about building a legacy of excellence, one continent at a time. ALN Nigeria | Aluko & Oyebode is not just a Nigerian firm, we’re an African force. With ALN, the future is looking brighter than ever.”
The official rebranding on 24 January to ALN Nigeria | Aluko & Oyebode continues a journey the twin African powerhouses began when they first partnered more than a year ago.
Shared values and best practices, along with open dialogue and communication and collaborative committees, have eased the integration process, said Joke Aliu, co-managing partner at ALN Nigeria | Aluko & Oyebode. Exchange programmes and cross-training initiatives also help foster deeper understanding and collaboration within the ALN alliance.
“I expect that these, coupled with continuous improvement through feedback loops, will positively impact the process of integration, ensure smooth transition, and result in an integrated and collaborative alliance well positioned to serve clients across Africa,” she added.
For Oyebode, there’s a natural harmony between Aluko & Oyebode and ALN when it comes to key attributes and values including growth, the cultivation of award-winning expertise, complex deals in diverse industries, future-focused leadership, and a truly pan-African vision.
“Technology played a part too,” he pointed out. “Early investments in seamless global collaboration aligned with ALN’s vision to connect the continent. Perhaps most importantly, our shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and ethics became the bridge between our two firms.”
For its part, ALN Nigeria | Aluko & Oyebode provides a variety of ALN clients with deep understanding and local know-how of the Nigerian legal system, one of Africa’s key economies, and the broader West African market, said Aliu.
“Our stellar reputation for excellence, investment in technology, focus on sustainability and remarkable track record underscore our commitment to delivering efficient, responsible and high-quality legal services, making us an invaluable partner in advancing ALN’s success into the rich and diversified pan-African alliance with enhanced client value,” she explained.
The integration of ALN and Aluko & Oyebode feels like the perfect next chapter and a win-win for everyone, commented Oyebode. The collaboration of two powerhouses strengthens the rule of law across Africa and paves the way for a more integrated and efficient legal landscape.
“Our growth, expertise, evolution, innovative mindsets, and shared values all came together,” he said. “Together, we unlock unprecedented potential for cross-border collaboration, driving legal excellence and shaping the future of legal services across the continent.”
