Learning from the best

Africa Legal and the East Africa Law Society are delighted to launch their first course together following their commitment to partner in the delivery of low cost online learning.

The first course, How to Grow Your Firm, is now open and aims to help lawyers unlock the growth potential of their firm and practice. Learners will be provided with a number of practical how-to guides, top tips and downloadable tools to equip them to:

  • Define their firm’s mission, vision and business strategy;
  • Implement their strategy and enhance efficiencies in their firm’s operations; and
  • Identify how a properly defined marketing strategy and personal brand can enhance their firm’s reputation and growth.

The course draws on the input and expertise of leading practitioner, James Kamau, Chair, DLA Piper Africa, Managing Partner, IKM. Kamau is a leading corporate and projects lawyer in Kenya with over 27 years post-admission experience. His main areas of practice include finance, private equity, mergers & acquisitions, energy, infrastructure and public-private partnerships. His clients include private equity firms, investment and commercial banks, leading corporates, project developers, DFIs, governments, parastatals and high net worth individuals.

Speaking of the launch, James Leach, Africa Legal’s Chief Learning Officer, said “This is the first course of what is an exciting partnership for us at Africa Legal. It is a privilege to be working in partnership with the East Africa Law Society to develop learning that is designed and curated by leading experts and practitioners from the region specifically to meet the needs of lawyers in the EALS jurisdictions – and elsewhere!

“We are excited to be launching the second pilot course – The Fundamentals of Marketing your Law Firm – in August; hopefully there will be many more to come,” he added.

Bernard Oundo, EALS President, is sure that the courses will be of great value to EALS members. “The partnership with Africa Legal to provide low cost learning content meets a key mandate of EALS and that is to build capacity within our members to fulfil the emerging opportunities within the region,” he said.

East Africa Law Society Members will be provided with a discount code that reduces the course cost by 40%. Discount codes will be issued by EALS; simply email info@ealawsociety.org to request your code. To register for the course please click here.
