Future Lawyer Week (FLW) Africa is the fourth branch of the legal technology series, with sister events being held in the UK, USA and Asia. Taking place at the Innovation Village in Kampala, Uganda, from 21 to 23 February 2023, FLW Africa will bring the latest in legal innovation to in-house departments, private practice law firms and litigators around the world.
The three day event, hosted by Cosmonauts and the Innovation Village, is designed to facilitate stimulating conversations between these different areas of law at networking events, workshops, presentations and a legal innovation hackathon.
“The digitalization agenda has become an imperative for all economies globally,” said Hellen Mukasa, Legal Lead at The Innovation Village. “As governments, citizens and businesses increasingly digitize their operations, it’s necessary to ensure that everyone’s rights are protected, the inevitable effects of the digital divide are minimized, and that the benefits of digitalization such as improved efficiency are maximized. This requires the joint effort of all key players in the legal tech space in Africa. As an ecosystem builder, the Legal Tech Lab at the Innovation Village is proud to host the first iteration of Future Lawyer Week Africa. This conference will shine a light on the budding legal tech sector in Africa and build its capacity to serve the continent better.”
This groundbreaking event in the region will consist of a tour of the Innovation Village complete with a networking dinner, an Access to Legal Justice Hackathon, a full day of industry-shaping panels and presentations from the brightest minds in the industry, and exhibitions from the most innovative legal tech providers.
The final day of the event features a conference chaired by Mukasa which will take the form of five panel discussions. Speakers include Dennis Otatiina, Managing Partner at Dentons, Alice Blazevic Namuli, Partner – Head of Tech and Innovations at Katende, Ssempebwa & Co Advocates, and Brian Kalule, partner at Bowmans.
They will cover a wide range of topics such as using technology for collaboration, creating a digital-led African legal transformation, and technology and the justice system, highlighting the tidal wave of knowledge, learning, and community building that is sweeping through the East Africa legal technology community.
Tickets can be purchased through the event website or from the Cosmonauts team.
