Bowmans builds capacity in Tanzania
Leading African law firm, Bowmans, continues to expand its Africa-wide capacity with the appointment of corporate law specialist Michael Strain as a partner in its Tanzanian practice.
“We are focussed on building the pre-eminent African law firm to support our clients with their most complex legal matters on the continent,” explained chairman and senior partner, Ezra Davids. “Michael’s appointment will expand our capacity in a growing African market.”
Strain is a dual-qualified corporate, M&A and private equity specialist. He trained and practised as a solicitor in London for more than five years before relocating to Tanzania ten years ago.
He has advised on an array of high-value transactions across more than 15 African jurisdictions, with a particular focus on Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Uganda. Strain also brings an international perspective to the team having spent significant periods of time in the UK, India, Kenya and Tanzania during his career. He has extensive equity capital markets experience, launching IPOs in the UK, Luxembourg and India, as well as representing a variety of large international corporates and private equity firms on deals across Europe, the US and Asia.
Strain is admitted as both a solicitor (England & Wales) and as an advocate of the High Court in Tanzania.
“Michael’s extensive experience in corporate law and track record of establishing and growing legal practices in East Africa will enhance the local team’s capacity at a time when both Tanzania and the wider region are becoming more and more attractive to foreign investors,” added Davids.
