Tamlynn Caelers-Avis is a newly appointed senior associate at WMN Attorneys Inc who specialises in construction law and litigation. Since joining WMN Inc in September 2022, she has provided clients with practical legal assistance and negotiated a number of high-profile contracts.
Caelers-Avis prides herself on being able to provide practical and effective solutions to the clients’ problems while being honest about the prospects of success. “Knowledge, integrity and honesty are crucial – and providing a legal solution that the client is both comfortable with and can afford,” she noted.
“WMN Inc has provided me with a strong support system and a means to set and change the perception of lawyers in the construction industry and in general. I am proud to be part of a 100% black-women owned firm and to be able to work with other legal practitioners who have different and complementary education and legal preferences.”
“Tamlynn was brought on with the intention of being able to assist with contentious matters and has become the go-to legal practitioner in this regard. She is also an integral part of WMN Inc’s business development and training endeavours, both internally and externally,” commented Zama Ngcobo, WMN’s managing partner.
Bongani Memani is another newly appointed senior associate at WMN Inc; he specialises in construction law and corporate commercial law, especially drafting, reviewing, and negotiating of contracts and dispute resolution. He has assisted on a wide range of large and complex infrastructure projects and has acquired in-depth knowledge of the energy, petrochemical and mining industries.
Even though Memani works in a women-dominated firm, he feels like WMN Inc has provided him with a chance to encourage women to participate as part of a team and no longer promote the “boy’s club” mentality.
“WMN Attorneys has taught me that even though times are changing, women continue to stand in the way of their own success,” he commented. “Rather than ignoring the gender differences, women need to endeavour to make the differences matter. Women may never be the majority in the legal workforce, but their feminine qualities will take them closer to top-level positions than any other course we plot.”
Nyaradzai Magumise, WMN’s first candidate attorney, has now been appointed as an associate after completing her articles of clerkship with the firm. The firm is very proud of Magumise who was the first runner up in Best Future Ambassadors and Best Candidate Attorney Top Achiever categories at the 2022 Woza Africa Awards.
Magumise prides herself on being able to provide practical and effective solutions to the client’s problems, and her goal as a legal practitioner is “Always keeping my eyes on the prize." The prize in this case is meeting clients’ needs exceptionally without any excuses.
“Nyaradzai is an exceptionally dependable and detail-oriented legal practitioner. She seldom easily accepts what people call the norm, and that is how change comes about – looking in places where people think there is nothing to see,” said Ngcobo.
“I love working in a team because there is unity in diversity. If people from different cultures and backgrounds come together and work as a team, great results can be achieved,” commented Magumise who hopes to one day be appointed as a partner of the firm.
