Returning to an in-person event for their ninth year, the African Legal Awards recognise exceptional achievement from Africa’s legal elite. Hosted by Law.com International in partnership with Africa Legal, the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa and the global charity Save the Children, these awards continue to showcase incredible talent, recognising more of a pan-African audience each year.

In 2021 over 400 submissions were received, and over the last three years the awards have seen representation from 20 countries across Africa.

“Africa Legal is delighted to see the African Legal Awards back in person in 2022 with another record year of entries,” said Wendy Bampton, COO of Africa Legal. “The diversity of jurisdictions, in house representation and size of law firm is truly exciting. We’re proud to be a part of such a unique endeavour which shines a light on the legal excellence which the African continent hosts in such abundance.”

A few of the big winners in 2021 were AB & David Africa (African Law Firm of the Year – Large Practice), Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah (African Law Firm of the Year – Small Practice), Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa (African Network/Alliance of the Year) and Herbert Smith Freehills (Alternative Service Provider of the Year).

The event will also host the annual unveiling of the largest law firms, by headcount, from the Africa Top 50 rankings, researched in partnership between Africa Legal and Law.com International.

Winners in the 40 categories opened for 2022 will be announced on 2 September at an in-person event at the Houghton Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa.
