Africa Legal: Charting a new course for neutrality and inclusivity

As Africa Legal continues to grow alongside the dynamic legal community we are privileged to serve, it is important for us to constantly reevaluate our engagements and partnerships.

This introspective approach ensures our activities and collaborations align with our core mission – promoting legal excellence across Africa in a manner that is both inclusive and neutral.

In line with this commitment, we decided earlier this year to adjust our support for the African Legal Awards (ALA).

Our involvement with the ALA has always been driven by a desire to celebrate the remarkable achievements within our legal community, but Africa Legal has never participated in the judging of these awards. Instead, our role has always been that of a neutral partner, aimed at facilitating the celebration of legal excellence without influencing the outcomes.

Our decision to no longer partner with the ALA is no reflection on the value or importance of the Awards, which continue to play a significant role in highlighting legal achievements across the continent. Instead, it marks a strategic pivot towards broader avenues that can accommodate a wider spectrum of legal professionals and topics.

We look forward to sharing more about our upcoming initiatives and to continuing our work together, fostering a legal community that is not only recognised for its achievements, but also for its commitment to progress, enhancing the rule of law and access to justice.

We thank our community for their ongoing support and understanding and we wish all shortlisted the very best of luck for this Friday 6th September.

The winners will be announced by ALM on the African Legal Awards website after Friday’s ceremony. To view the shortlist please click here
