Tracking the Trends

Legislation changes regularly, and everyday court decisions can have far-reaching consequences; in order to stay on top of things it’s essential to observe the trends and start making allowances for how they might affect your business.

Not everyone has time or staff to do this, so Beech Veltman is making it easy by compiling a document on the current status of new legislation and legislative trends.

Some of the legislative changes they highlight in their most recent document relate to safety on mines, updated Covid regulations, Protection of Personal Information Act and mandatory vaccination policies, whereas some court rulings they’ve documented provide clarity on what were previously grey areas of the law. One such example is the November 2021 Supreme Court of Appeal ruling which clarified issues around transfer of a water use entitlement from one person to another.

Beech Veltman’s document lists the legislative changes and outcomes of wider reaching court cases, and explains concisely what this means for various entities, not just the individuals or businesses directly involved in the cases. An example of this is how the interim interdict against Shell’s exploration for oil off the Eastern Cape coast has implications for other entities seeking exploration rights.
