Spencer West Kenya continues rapid expansion

Alternative law firm Spencer West has continued the significant growth of its East African offering by adding new partners, experienced associates and dedicated managerial staff to Spencer West Kenya’s Nairobi office.

The firm has benefitted from the strong foundation built by founding partners Haanee Khan and Joseph Githaiga whose combined vision and dedication have been pivotal in the firm’s rapid growth and success.

The recent additions enhance the firm’s capacity across various sectors and further its commitment to providing top-tier legal services in East Africa. With the new joiners, Spencer West Kenya now has eight experienced partners in diverse areas of practice, four associates and three non-legal support staff.

New partner Sonal Raval, a distinguished legal professional with over 29 years of experience as an advocate in Kenya, brings a wealth of expertise across a broad range of practice areas. Her core areas of practice include conveyancing, property and estate development, private client services, employment law, probate and trusts, banking and bank securities, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, and e-commerce/fintech matters. Sonal’s comprehensive understanding of these areas ensures that clients receive well-rounded and informed legal advice.

Peter Kamero, another new partner, is a commercial lawyer with a wealth of experience across a broad range of areas including mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, employment and competition (antitrust) law. Peter has worked at top-tier law firms throughout his career, including a secondment in the London office of a leading international law firm. This formed the solid foundation upon which he acquired and honed the legal skills and commercial awareness that have proved invaluable to his clients. 

Edward Kimuma joins the firm as a senior associate. He has experience in corporate and commercial law with a keen focus on aviation finance and leasing, corporate advisory, mergers and acquisitions, asset finance transactions, commercial contracts and corporate insolvency.

The firm’s two new associates are Cynthia Kitolo and Anita Wambui who are both advocates of the High Court of Kenya.

Cynthia is a real estate, corporate and commercial lawyer specialising in real property disposition and acquisition, sectional properties, commercial leases, perfection of securities and general commercial transactions. She also brings valuable experience in intellectual property, data protection and privacy advisory and compliance, and company secretarial services, making her a versatile legal professional.

Anita Wambui is a corporate and commercial lawyer who specialises in general commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, as well as regulatory and compliance mandates. Her background in legal advisory and consultancy services has also equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic regulatory landscape across different jurisdictions in Africa.

The Nairobi office also welcomes Karen Mwende who joins as office manager, with the role crucial of supporting the firm’s continued expansion. Karen is a seasoned administration and operations professional with more than six years of experience supporting executive teams and driving organisational efficiency through her expertise in strategic planning, executive support and office management.
