A new podcast series, “Voices of Impact: African Lawyers Changing the World”, launching in the first quarter of 2025, will explore how legal professionals across the continent are reshaping the intersection of law, business and social change.
The ten-episode series is an initiative of Global Alliance for Impact Lawyers (GAIL) Africa and is supported by N. Dowuona & Company, one of Ghana’s leading law firms, top ranked by the likes of Chambers and Legal 500. GAIL is a community of legal leaders using the practice of law to have a positive impact on people and the planet, and to accelerate the just transition.
The announcement follows GAIL Africa’s successful inaugural in-person event hosted in Accra in November 2024, which brought together legal practitioners from across Africa to discuss ways their profession can better serve society’s needs. The event, hosted by N. Dowuona & Company, marked a significant milestone in the recognition of impact law as an area of focus across the continent.
“African lawyers are uniquely positioned to drive positive social change while maintaining excellence in legal practice,” said NanaAma Botchway, Managing Partner of N. Dowuona & Company and GAIL Africa’s first Regional Chair. “This podcast series will capture the stories of legal professionals who are proving that excellence and impact are not just compatible, but also mutually reinforcing.”
Featured guests will include legal innovators working in crucial areas such as environmental protection, digital rights, agricultural development and gender equity in business leadership. Episodes will air monthly on major podcast platforms starting in March 2025. The initiative will be complemented by the GAIL Africa Impact Journal which will provide insights and share knowledge from impact lawyers across the continent.
The podcast initiative forms part of N. Dowuona & Company’s broader commitment to combining top-tier legal expertise with a genuine desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives. This belief that lawyers can and should be catalysts for positive change has also led the firm to introduce other initiatives such as ND&C Launchpad, a program designed to help bridge the funding gap for women-owned SMEs by removing legal and financial obstacles. NanaAma says there are more exciting developments to come on that front as well.
