CMS South Africa strengthens cross-border team with new addition

With an increasing number of cross-border projects on the go in Africa, CMS South Africa has announced the expansion of its Cross-Border Projects and Infrastructure team with the addition of Muzi Kubeka.

Kubeka joins the South African firm as a senior cross-border projects and infrastructure lawyer, reinforcing its unique dual-qualified project team which is designed to serve pan-African and international clients. He brings a wealth of experience of working at top domestic and international firms where he specialised in cross-border finance transactions, energy and infrastructure projects.

With more than 20 years of industry experience, Kubeka has successfully navigated complex projects across Africa and other international markets, guiding clients through intricate legal landscapes.

"Our South African office has seen significant growth in cross-border projects, and the addition of Muzi will further enhance our ability to meet the increasing demands of our clients," said Riza Moosa, Managing Partner of CMS South Africa. "His experience enhances our unique dual-qualified team that can seamlessly manage cross-border projects for clients throughout Africa and beyond. This expansion underscores our commitment to providing world-class legal services from our South African base. It’s great to be working with Muzi again. His deep finance experience in South Africa and the continent across energy and infrastructure sectors adds to our strong banking and finance team as we continue to grow CMS South Africa’s offering to our clients.”

In his new role, Kubeka will work alongside Bridgett Majola to focus on a broad range of domestic and cross-border financings and projects in various sectors including energy and renewable energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, transport and logistics.

"Joining CMS is an exciting opportunity for me," said Kubeka. "The firm's growth in cross-border projects, dedication to building a transformed pan-African commercial law firm with a truly African identity, and its dual-qualified project team aligns with my expertise. I look forward to contributing to the firm's success and helping our clients achieve their business objectives in Africa and globally."

“We are thrilled to welcome Muzi to our team as we expand our strategic growth in project finance expertise within the continent,” said team leader Majola. “Muzi's versatility and extensive experience in financing deals positions him as a trusted advisor for clients in the energy and infrastructure sector. His wealth of experience, profound expertise, and impressive track record bring a fresh perspective to our capabilities and reinforces our team."
