Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie to Host Webinar on FCPA Enforcement Suspension and Global Compliance Implications
Tomorrow, Thursday 6 March, a live webinar with a distinguished panel of speakers will be held to discuss the global implications of a US Executive Order to review guidelines and policies governing Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigations and enforcement.
In the wake of an executive order issued on 10 February by US President Donald Trump directing the Attorney General to pause investigations and enforcement actions brought under the FCPA for 180 days, Nigerian law firm Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie (UUBO) will host a webinar with leading experts on 6 March 2025.
The FCPA is landmark legislation passed in 1977 as a result of investigations revealing widespread bribery of foreign officials by US companies to secure business advantages. While the FCPA primarily regulates the actions of companies and individuals subject to US jurisdiction, one of its most significant impacts is how it regulates the interactions between businesses and foreign officials.
UUBO, a full-service commercial firm established in 1983, is pleased to host the webinar, titled “The Recent US Executive Order on the FCPA: Implications for Global Compliance”, to discuss the potential impact of suspension of FCPA enforcement on multinational organisations and local subsidiaries of US companies.
Taking place at 3pm WAT on Thursday, 6 March 2025, the webinar will cover:
the potential impact of the executive order on cross-border investigations;
local compliance considerations and the Nigerian Anti-Bribery and Corruption framework;
how US policy shifts may impact enforcement actions in other jurisdictions with similar extraterritorial laws; and
key takeaways for businesses, legal practitioners, and compliance professionals.
The distinguished panel of speakers for the webinar consists of:
Hiral Mehta and Arun Rao, partners at Mayer Brown LLP, who will provide insights into the Executive Order’s impact on FCPA enforcement;
Christopher Gribbin, a Managing Associate at Mishcon de Reya LLP, who will offer the UK perspective, assessing the continued strength of the UK Bribery Act 2010 and its extraterritorial impact compared to the FCPA.
Chiazokam Okadigbo, Associate Director at Deloitte Nigeria, who will analyse Nigeria’s anti-corruption legal framework and outline key steps for Nigerian businesses, particularly multinationals, to uphold effective anti-corruption practices despite shifts in US policy; and
Adeola Sunmola, partner at Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, who will moderate the discussions, while also contributing her perspectives on Nigeria’s anti-corruption legal framework.
Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie looks forward to an insightful discussion with the expert panel, and to welcoming interested parties. To register for this webinar, please click: uubo.org/webinar.
